Hidden Tokens vs ChatGPT Enterprise and Claude Enterprise
"We'll just buy the enterprise plan" is the most common answer to AI and confidentiality. It is a good step. It solves a different problem from Hidden Tokens.
- Enterprise and business plans from OpenAI and Anthropic don't train models on your data by default and add administration and retention controls.
- They still receive your files in clear: your clients' names reach the provider's servers.
- Hidden Tokens works upstream: identities are coded on your computer, so the provider receives codes, whatever plan you use.
- The two combine well: an enterprise plan for the contract and the administration, Hidden Tokens so that no identity is in what you send.
What enterprise plans give you
Based on the providers' own published materials, checked on 24 October 2026:
- OpenAI states that it does not use data from ChatGPT Enterprise and ChatGPT Business (inputs or outputs) to train its models by default, that data is encrypted at rest (AES-256) and in transit (TLS 1.2 or higher), that eligible customers can manage their own encryption keys, and that workspace owners can set retention policies.
- Anthropic states that by default it does not use inputs or outputs from its commercial products (Claude for Work and the API) to train its models, unless the customer opts in or sends feedback. Standard retention for commercial use is a limited period, with zero-data-retention arrangements available for some enterprise customers.
These are real improvements over consumer accounts, and for most organisations a business or enterprise plan is a sensible baseline. Policies change: check the providers' current terms before relying on them.
What they don't change
An enterprise plan governs what the provider may do with your data. It does not change what the data is: when a lawyer uploads a case file, the parties' names, company numbers and bank details are sent to the provider's servers in clear. You are trusting contractual commitments and the provider's security for information you are accountable for.
Side by side
| AI enterprise plan | Hidden Tokens | |
|---|---|---|
| What the provider receives | Your files in clear | Coded files: no names, identifiers or, if you choose, amounts |
| Training on your data | Off by default (provider commitment) | Nothing identifying to train on |
| Where the protection runs | On the provider's side | On your computer; the key never leaves |
| Works across AI providers | One provider per plan | Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot |
| Proof of what the AI received | Provider logs and admin tools | Local "What Claude saw" log and signed proof pages |
| Administration, SSO, retention settings | Yes | Admin policy and coverage report for Hidden Tokens itself; no SSO |
| Covers staff using personal accounts | No | Only where the browser extension is installed |
When to choose which
- An enterprise plan alone is reasonable when your documents contain little personal data, or when your clients and regulators accept the provider's contractual terms.
- Hidden Tokens matters when identities must not leave your organisation at all: professional secrecy, health or HR data, client contracts that forbid it, or a DPO who wants proof.
- Both is the strongest setup: the plan for governance and model access, Hidden Tokens so that what you send identifies no one.
Frequently asked questions
If ChatGPT Enterprise doesn't train on our data, why pseudonymise?
Not training on data is not the same as not receiving it. The provider still processes and stores your inputs for a period, under its terms and in its infrastructure. For professional secrecy, the stronger position is that identities never leave your office.
Does Hidden Tokens work with ChatGPT Enterprise or Claude Enterprise?
Yes. Hidden Tokens doesn't depend on the plan: the Claude Desktop connector and the browser extension (ChatGPT, claude.ai, Gemini, Copilot) code content before it reaches whichever plan you use.
Is Hidden Tokens cheaper than an enterprise plan?
They are not substitutes, so compare them on what they solve. Hidden Tokens costs €190 to €390 per seat per year depending on the plan, and works with any AI subscription, including the ones your team already has.
