How do I de-anonymise the AI's output?

Ask Claude to write the final document with the codes, then to decode it: Hidden Tokens replaces each code with its real value and writes the Word or Excel file on your computer, formatting intact. The decoded file never appears in the conversation and must never be given back to the AI.

Before you start

You need Claude Desktop with the Hidden Tokens connector and the Academy practice folder from lesson 2. Decoding uses the key that stays on your computer.

Step by step

  1. Ask for the document, written with the codes

    In the conversation from lesson 3, ask: Draft a letter before claim to the supplier, ready to send. Claude writes it with the codes, because codes are all it has: COMPANY-002 for the supplier, NAME-001 for the client's director.

  2. Ask Hidden Tokens to write the Word file

    Then ask: Give me this letter as a Word document with the real names. Claude hands the text to Hidden Tokens, which replaces every code with its real value and writes a .docx in the Hidden-Tokens subfolder; its name contains -decode-. Claude only gets back the name of the file, never its content.

  3. Open the decoded file

    Open the …-decode-….docx file in Word: the supplier, the client and the director have their real names back, headings and bold intact. Check it as you would check any draft before sending it.

  4. Decode a Word file you edited yourself

    You can also work in Word on the coded copy (01-letter-to-client-anonymise.docx), save it, and ask Claude: Decode my edited letter. Hidden Tokens writes the decoded copy next to it, comments and headers included.

It is kept: headings, bold, tables, headers and comments Hidden Tokens replaces the codes inside the Word file itself, so the layout stays as it was.

Frequently asked questions

Can I decode a reply from ChatGPT or Gemini?

In the browser, the extension already shows the reply with the real names on your screen (lesson 4). To get a decoded Word file, the decoding tools are in Claude Desktop; for other AIs, keep their reply as coded text and decode it with Claude Desktop.

Does decoding still work after the trial?

Yes. Decoding files you already coded stays free forever, even without a subscription: your data is never held hostage.

Can a decoded file be coded again?

Yes: drop it into the watched folder like any other document, and it is coded with the same key, so the same people get the same codes.
